August Wrap Up!

August slipped away into a moment in time, cause it was never mine…

Yep, still listening to folklore like it’s my job. Kudos to you if you got that reference. Anyway, we’re officially at the end of August and frankly 2020 is exhausting me. So much is happening in the world that is making up more divisive then ever, even within our own little booksta community. Black Panther is now resting in power. My dad has been hospitalized 3 times this year, just getting out for the third time on Friday. I don’t know how much more I can take from 2020.

On a more bookish note, I did super well on my TBR goals for the first about 20 days of the month. And then I’ve only read one book the last 11 days of the month – which is just insane for me. Nothing has felt interesting, nothing has caught my attention. I’m hoping I will get more into September, because I am participating in another reading challenge – more on that tomorrow for my TBR post. I think it will help me clean up some books I’ve been looking forward to.

Happy reading, folks!

July Wrap Up!

Happy end of July friends!! I somehow failed this month’s TBR while also exceeding all expectations. Let me explain how that happens. I did NOT follow through on the Four Nations Readathon. I got about halfway, and it served it’s purpose of getting me out of my slight reading funk. So I quit halfway because I got into reading books I didn’t really want to be reading, and that just isn’t fun right? Reading should be fun. So my reading continued to blossom AND I went on vacation for the last almost week of the month. Long car ride + COVID closing everything around us = plenty of reading time.

All this to say that whereas I did not follow my TBR, I read a whopping 31 books this month (I pushed the last book today because I liked the symmetry of 31 books for 31 days of the month. This is seriously WAY more than I would ever read in a month, I’m honestly shocked it somehow happened. It didn’t feel like I was reading this much throughout the month, but I keep a draft of this post all month so I can remember my ratings. So when I looked at it a few days ago and really counted, I was amazed. (Also, several are short story/novellas).

I don’t want anyone to see this and think they don’t read enough. As my partner likes to say, I am very extra. The amount you read or don’t read is valid. I will likely never come even close to this number again, and I blame it entirely on COVID and it stealing my social life and needing to destress by way of books. I can’t be anxious about my own life if I’m anxious about character’s lives!

June Wrap Up!

I was very unmotivated to read this month. This month really was hard emotionally as I’m trying to work on my mental health (unsuccessfully). I didn’t at all read near the amount of books I planned, but honestly it’s okay. I’m up to date on my publisher and ARC reviews – and that’s really what matters. March Wrap Up!

Welcome back to my monthly post about all the books I read (and all the one’s I didn’t read) as planned! I initially planned to be super ambitious and read 20 books in March. Spoiler alert: this did NOT happen! But really, who is surprised by this?

I want to say I did well with my reading… but I really didn’t. In total I read 15 books, which is great don’t get me wrong, but it was HARD to read in March. Especially by the end. And still is as I’m writing this frankly. The nonsense with COVID-19 has got me in more of a depressed state, so reading doesn’t hold quite the same stress relief as it normally does. I’m working through it though!

Without further ado, below are the books I read in March, and even further below are the books I meant to read in March but didn’t.

BOOKS I DID NOT GET TO AS PLANNED

Continuing the theme from February by having 8 books that I did not read from the TBR.

  1. The Beckoning Shadow (The Beckoning Shadow #1), Katharyn Blair
  2. Diamond & Dawn (Amber & Dusk #2), Lyra Selene

  7. The Beautiful (The Beautiful #1), Renee Ahdieh
  8. Infinity Son (Infinity Cycle #1), Adam Silvera

I plan to read all of these, minus The Beautiful and Infinity Son in April. I planned to read those two via audiobook, but with the statewide shut downs and working from home mostly – I’ve given up on audiobooks for the time being. I hope to get back to them once the world is in a better place.

Tune in tomorrow for my April TBR post! Quick, sneak peak… I plan to read a ridiculous amount of books again!

Happy reading, folks!

February Wrap Up!

Hi friends! Welcome to another monthly wrap up of all the amazing books I read! I was mostly really happy with all my choices this month and there was a lot of diversity in the genres and mediums of the books I read! I started listening to audiobooks this month and I’ve found that I like it more than I thought I would!

I completely threw my TBR that I had planned out the window this month. I had planned to read 16 books and I actually ended up reading 18 books. However… there are 8 books from my TBR that I didn’t touch. I got really distracted by library books (new is always better, right) and restructured my Netgalley reads because I hit 80+% for my ratio so I don’t have to read those as frequently. Basically I mood read all month and IT’S FINE!

BOOKS I DID NOT GET TO AS PLANNED

Below are the 8 books I did not read as planned this month. The first two will move to my March TBR because I really want to get a move on my subscription box books, and I’ve already started Wicked Fox.

  1. Wicked Fox (Gumiho #1), Kat Cho
  2. The Beckoning Shadow (The Beckoning Shadow #1), Katharyn Blair
  3. The Assassin’s Blade (Throne of Glass #0.5), Sarah J. Maas

Happy reading, folks!

January Wrap-Up!

Happy end of January folks! It’s always the month that will never end, and I swear today is January 57th instead of the 31st. However, I still did not manage to read my entire planned TBR, but I got pretty darn close!

I ended up switching up some of the Netgalley books because I got approved for a few in early February at the last minute, so I had to switch some titles over to February’s TBR (check back tomorrow for that post!). I was a little stressed over this because I had 3 books due February 4th that I hadn’t read yet and only 9 days to read them all. BUT I managed it and my last second approval ended up being one of my favorite reads this month!

So without further ado, see below for my 16 finished books this month! I had a nice even split of physical books and ebooks, which was one thing I wanted to be more conscious of this year!

BOOKS I DID NOT GET TO AS PLANNED

All of these books have been bumped to February’s TBR, with some additions of course!

  1. The Women’s War (Women’s War #1), Jenna Glass – I’m actually about 170 pages into this right now, just couldn’t get super into it so moved onto something else!

Happy reading, folks! And happy almost February!

December Wrap Up!

December was a good reading month for the last of the year, and the decade. This decade of reading was very interesting for me. Whereas I’ve always loved reading, college and grad school made it difficult to really read for fun. In 2018, I immersed myself back in reading, started my bookstagram, and read 38 books. In 2019, I finished with 162 books, with 17 being in December alone.

I also started reviewing books on Netgalley in 2019, so I opened myself up to a whole new world of ebooks and being able to read them without having to purchase them first. I read a total of 45 Netgalley eARC’s in 2019, which is amazing to me. Below I detail my December 2019 reads!

PHYSICAL BOOKS

  1. The Start of Me and You, Emery Lord – 4/5 stars
  2. The Kiss Quotient, Helen Hoang – 5/5 stars
  3. Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating, Christina Lauren – 5/5 stars

  2. The Map From Here to There, Emery Lord – 4/5 stars
  3. No, We Can’t Be Friends, Sophie Ranald – 4/5 stars
  4. Temptress, Lola Dodge – 3/5 stars
  5. How to Build a Heart, Maria Padian – 4/5 stars
  6. What the Other Three Don’t Know, Spencer Hyde – 3/5 stars
  7. The Sound of Stars, Alechia Dow – 4/5 stars
  8. Ink in the Blood, Kim Smejkal – 3.5/5 stars

  2. Entwined Paths, M.L. Greye – 5/5 stars (ARC provided by the author)

The Big Love by Sarah Dunn was my last read of the year, and unfortunately it just wasn’t for me. Planning on reading a book that I KNOW will be amazing as my first read in 2020 to make up for it! I hope you all had a great reading month, and decade! Comment below and let me know if you’ve read any of these, are looking forward to reading any, or something you read and loved in December!

Happy reading, folks!

October Wrap Up!

Good evening, friends! I’m back to discuss all the lovely books I was able to read in the month of October, and it was A LOT! I’m so surprised I read this many because it didn’t even feel like a good reading month for me! But I read a total of 19 books – eARC and physical books combined! I did not get to all the eARC’s or physical books I initially had on my October TBR, but I enjoy the fact that I get to mood read. How many books were you able to read this month?

Happy reading, bookish friends! 🙂

September Wrap Up!

I definitely did not get to all the books I planned to this month, but I’m okay with that. I signed up for soooo many Netgalley ARC’s that I feel buried underneath them, so I took some time off reading and read some things that I’ve just been meaning to for awhile. I still have plenty of time to get my ARC’s read before they’re released, so it will all be okay 🙂

PHYSICAL BOOKS

  1. Sorcery of Thorns – Margaret Rogerson – 5/5 stars
  2. The Kingdom – Jess Rothenberg – 4/5 stars
  3. The Crowns of Croswald – D. E. Night – 4/5 stars

August Wrap Up!

Happy last day of August! Where oh where did this month go? I feel like I was just typing July’s Wrap Up post yesterday! This month I got a good deal of reading done, including every single book that was on my TBR for August! I don’t think that has happened since I started keeping track, so I’m very impressed and happy with myself!

PHYSICAL BOOKS

So I definitely read a lot fewer physical books because I wanted to really crack down on my Netgalley TBR. I really missed reading physicals books though, so September will at least be more balanced between physical and ebooks, if not more.

  1. Strange the Dreamer (Strange the Dreamer #1) – Laini Taylor – 5/5 stars
  2. A Curse So Dark and Lonely (Cursebreakers #1) – Brigid Kemmerer – 5/5 stars
  3. Ignite the Stars (Ignite the Stars #1) – Maura Milan – 5/5 stars
  4. Fix Her Up (Hot & Hammered #1) – Tessa Bailey – 5/5 stars

EBOOKS

I managed to get my Netgalley ratio up to 50% this month by reading a bunch of the eARC’s! It would have been higher but I was also approved for more during the month 🙂

  1. Midnight Beauties (Grim Lovelies #2) – Megan Shepherd – 4/5 stars
  2. The Murder List – Hank Phillippi Ryan – 5/5 stars
  3. Eclipse the Skies (Ignite the Stars #2) – Maura Milan – 4/5 stars
  4. Realm of Knights (Knights of the Realm #1) – Jennifer Anne Davis – 4/5 stars
  5. The Weight of a Soul – Elizabeth Tammi – 4/5 stars
  6. Crown of Coral and Pearl (Crown of Coral and Pearl #1) – Mara Rutherford – 5/5 stars
  7. Tweet Cute – Emma Lord – 5/5 stars
  8. The Lady Rogue – Jenn Bennett – 3/5 stars

As you can see I managed to get a lot of really good reading done, of which I am super happy for. I’m also looking forward to what the next month will bring!
